Oreo gay coming out film

Coming out doesn’t just happen once. LGBTQ+ individuals know this all too well.

This touching short film by Alice Wu addresses the importance of being a lifelong ally. It’s an important message that’s been timed for release before Pride, when a number of LGBTQ+ individuals tend to come out to their families, friends, at work, and in their communities.

Oreo – owned by Mondelez International – partnered with PFLAG National to create this ad. It is commendable that the film doesn’t take a superficial approach and addresses a challenge faced by gay, lesbian, bi, and trans individuals all the time. Critics have mocked the choice of language (Chinese), pointing out that this ad wouldn’t get a warm reception in China. The fact that this ad doesn’t prominently feature Oreos has also been criticised.
